You've got the complete (and mixed!) kit to stay warm throughout the winter! The hood comes in 3 versions: balaclava for a turtleneck effect and a short or long bib to slip easily under jackets or coats.  The beanie is worn with a wide cuff, and the mittens will stay in place thanks to the slit left for easily slipping your thumb in.

What you will learn with this pattern (see the videos of the main techniques here) : 

  • Sewing knit fabric with or without serger
  • Create a balaclava or bib hood from a piece cut on the fold
  • Finish edges using finishing bands

Recommended fabrics :

  • Weight : medium to heavy (200-400 gsm or 6-12 oz.)
  • Fabric : knitted (knitting, sweatshirt fabric). Warning: fabrics with ribs should be avoided due to their strong tendency to warp!
  • Stretch factor : 40 to 140 % max (0-5% elastane)
  • Tip (hood): if your fabric is very thick, I recommend that you choose a thinner one for the face finishing band in order to avoid excess thickness (ribbing is ok).

The versions presented have been sewn in different sizes depending on the stretch factor* of the chosen fabrics (Johanna's measurements: head = 59.5 cm / wrist = 16 cm):

  • Navy beanie and mittens: worn with a brown CAPSULE sweater and brown EQUILIBRE pants
  • Gray leo short bib hood: worn with a gray FLOW coat then a gray SOLSTICE jacket
  • Gray leo beanie and mittens: worn with an ALCÔVE sleeveless offwhite jacket
  • Beige beanie and mittens: worn with a brown ALCÔVE sleeveless jacket
  • Black and gray long bib hood: worn with a burgundy coat MERCI
  • Red hood: worn with a gray FLOW coat
